Avengers Endgame review

The end of an era – a journey that spanned 11 years and 22 films – arrives its final destination with a magnificent spectacle. Avengers: Endgame succeeds in all that it set out to do; bring the story full circle, give it a befitting end, create an intimate experience between the characters and the audience and provide the usual spectacle – this time even bigger. Endgame was memorable, glorious and satisfying.

See 15 standout moments from Avengers: Endgame.

1. Captain Marvel Rescues Tony Stark and Nebula

All hope seemed lost for Tony Stark and Nebula who were stranded in space, but just as Tony was about to give up, there comes a bright light in the shape of the glorious Captain marvel to the rescue.

2. Thor went for the head

In what ultimately was far from a win, Thor finally takes Thanos’ advice and goes for the head, decapitating the Mad Titan.

3. Clint Barton becomes Ronin

At the beginning of the movie we find out that Hawkeye was also affected by the destruction as he loses his whole family. This drives him into becoming the vigilante Ronin, hunting down and killing cartels and criminals.

4. Scott Lang returns from the Quantum Realm

Ant-Man returned from the Quantum Realm after five years and discovers that the world isn’t as he left it. However there is a silver lining as he reunites with his now grown daughter in a heart felt moment.

5. Tony Stark has a daughter

And she is prettyyyyyyyyy!!!

6. Thor’s drinking problem

Thor develops a drinking problem after seeing himself as a failure. This changes him physically and mentally as he develops a beer belly and loses his purpose.

7. The time travel sequences

After they figure out how to travel through time (courtesy Antman, Ironman and The Hulk), they go after the infinity stones at various times/places in (their) history. One particular thing I found interesting was finding out that the Supreme Sorceress (Dr. Strange) also fought in the battle of New York.

8. Black Widow sacrifices herself for the soul stone

Black Widow and Hawkeye are told by Red Skull that they have to sacrifice their loved one in order to get the soul stone. The two friends fight each other over who should be sacrificed. Widow eventually wins this fight and sacrifices herself to the devastation of Clint.

9. Intimate moments

Avengers: Engame was all about intimate moments especially with family and loved ones. Thor had a heartfelt encounter with his mother, so also did Tony Stark with his father. Even Captain America had a moment with the love of his life, Peggy Carter.

10. Stan Lee’s cameo

The legendary Stan Lee makes his final cameo as a hippie driving by Shield lab at Camp Lehigh military base when Cap and Tony go back in time to retrieve the space stone from 1970. As he drives by he shouts “Hey, man! Make love, not war!”, and we see the bumper sticker that reads “Nuff said”, one of Lee’s catchphrases.

11. Everybody is back

After Hulk wielded the infinity gauntlet and snapped, everyone who disappeared 5 years ago returned. Later we will discuss the chaos that will follow half the population of the world returning after 5 years, but for now, let’s look at the sweet side – other members of the Avengers are back too.

12. Captain America wields Thor’s hammer

To the pleasant surprise of the audience and Thor himself, Captain America turned out to be worthy and able to wield Mjolnir, which he subsequently uses to smack Thanos around.

13. Tony Stark saves the universe

Iron Man somehow collects the infinity stones from Thanos just as he is about to snap again, he snaps it himself and destroys Thanos and his army. Although this led to his death, it was a satisfying denouement to Tony Stark’s story

14. All about the original six

Endgame basically revolved around the six and how the characters have developed in 11 years. Also, all the major plot points were directed towards them, whether it was intimate moments between Thor, Tony and their respective parents, or Clint and Widow’s adventure in Vormir or even Hulk finding a balance between Bruce and the beast, the movie was all about the original six avengers.

15. Captain America gets to ‘live’

At the end of the movie Captain America goes back in time to return the Infinity stones but comes back an aging Steve Rogers who has experienced life as a normal person.
