Highlights From Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3

Game of thrones most epic episode yet was released Sunday night/Monday morning depending on your time zone. The Night King finally came and the battle of Winterfell ensued in what was indeed “a long night”.

Here are some SPOILER filled highlights from the episode.

1. Lots of deaths

HBO

The list goes on and on, Lyanna Mormont, Jorah Mormont, Beric Dondarion, Dolorous Edd, Athe Dothraki horde etc.  But the most painful of all for some was the death of Theon who died a hero.

2. Melisandre returns…but dies

HBO

Melisandre makes a return just as the war is about to begin and plays her part in the battle against the dead. She brings a short-lived hope when she lit up the swords of the Dothraki soldiers and later called on the lord of light to light up the trenches. After the battle was over, she walks into the field, takes off her necklace and drops dead.

3. The Night King was invincible to fire

HBO

For a moment, Daenerys thought she had finally destroyed the Night King after her dragon rained down fire on it, only for him to walk out of the fire like the three Hebrew boys.

4. The Crypt

HBO

First of all Tyrion laments not being out there in the battle and sights his impact at the battle of blackwater. Secondly the Crypt which is supposedly the safest place in Winterfell is breached by the white walkers.

5. The battle of the dragons

While the battle was raging below, another epic battle was going on in the sky between the Night Kings Dragon and Dany’s dragons.

6. Theon Greyjoy is a good man

HBO

Theon’s death was probably the most painful of all. In this moment, Theon’s story comes full circle and it was only right for his story to finally come to an end. He fought valiantly until the end, protecting Bran even till his death.

7. Arya kills the Night King

In a moment that sent the whole GOT universe into frenzy, Arya leaped from nowhere, looked into the eyes of the night King and destroyed him.

8. The prophecy

HBO

During the encounter between Melisandre and Arya, the former tells Arya that she will shut brown eyes, blue eyes and green eyes. Arya has fulfilled the first two by killing Walder Frey and the Night King. Could Queen Cersei, who has green eyes be her next victim?

9. Winter lasted for one night?

HBO

Despite the prolonged build up to the Night King’s arrival, and while the battle was pretty epic, was that really it?…well that was a bit underwhelming, but then, maybe the only war that matters is the one for the throne.
