Top 10 most outstanding Nigerian brands on Social Media

Imperial Leather

One fine morning, Lagosians going about their business saw ladies in red dresses lined up in various locations. It spun thousands of conversations for a couple days and eventually led to an event a variant of the Imperial Leather brand was launched.

Heineken

Heineken collaborated with Jidenna to make one of the funniest ads this year – the one about the Master Brewer. This soon led to a #MoreBehindTheStar app, where people could generate funny Nigerian titles and share on Social Media.

Guaranty Trust Bank

If GTBank doesn’t get on the main list, they will always have honorable mentions – for being one of the pioneers of coolness on Social Media. Not much a lot of spectacular things were done in 2017, but they gave us the 737 song, the most popular jingle last year.

Haansbro

Haansbro started 2017 with less than 600 followers on Twitter and 2000 followers on Instagram. They ended the year with 6,600 and 18,400 followers respectively, a 1000% growth, approximately. Their strategy on Twitter was quite interesting. Every week, they curated the top 4 best tweets and asked people to vote for their choice. The winner was rewarded with cash and biscuits and soon, #ChopBiscuit became a lingua for rewards, something Twitter people looked forward to.

Payporte

Payporte rode the #BBNaija wave to grow their Social Media presence and fortunes.

FCMB

Sometime in the last quarter of 2017, FCMB discovered the art of witty clap-backs and Twitter savagery. It is interesting to watch them dish it to users, back to back. They should exercise caution though. There’s a thin line between class and ridicule. A word is enough for the bank.

Coke

#CokeStudioNG remains a fan favorite, and while there wasn’t considerable (read exceptional) push on Social Media, they still gave us some of the biggest music mashups, including the currently trending single, Said by Runtown and Nasty C.

Close Up

Mouthwash makers, Close-Up brought coolness to Social Media with their #CoolLikeThat campaign. They had people rapping to beats, repping their city and sharing photos of their glow up, They visited campuses across Nigeria where they had Cool Breeze parties headlined by acts like Reekado Banks, Humblesmith and LAX.

Dano

The hugely popular #FlavourChronicles was powered by Dano, the milk brand. It was their strategy to promote new products with different flavors, and they had almost all the Instagram Comedians creating hilarious skits for them.
