  1. Peshawar School Massacre, Pakistan (December 16, 2014). Deaths: 148

In December 2014, 6 gunmen affiliated with the Taliban Movement of Pakistan entered the Army Public School in Peshawar, headed straight to the auditorium where kids were having First Aid trainings, and opened fire. There were over 1000 pupils in the auditorium and the terrorists planned to kill as many as they could. By the time the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group had overpowered and killed the 6 terrorists, 141 persons, including 132 schoolchildren ranging between eight and eighteen years of age, had been killed.

Peshawar School Massacre

In December 2015, Pakistan hanged four militants involved in the massacre. The mastermind – Omar Khorasani – evaded arrest till October this year, when he was killed in a drone strike in eastern Afghanistan.

  1. Garissa University College Attack, Kenya (April 2, 2015). Deaths: 148

On the 2nd of April 2015, 4 gunmen stormed the Garissa University College in Kenya, killed 148 people – 142 students, 3 soldiers and 3 police officers – and injured about 80 others. The militant group and Al-Qaeda offshoot, Al-Shabaab, which the gunmen claimed to be from, took responsibility for the attack. During the massacre, the gunmen took over 700 students hostage, freeing Muslims and killing those who identified as Christians. The siege ended after 15 hours, when all four of the attackers were killed. Five men were later arrested in connection with the attack, and a bounty of about 20 million Kenyan Shillings (about $215,000) was placed for the arrest of the suspected organizer – British born Jihadist Samantha Lewthwaite. This attack is the deadliest (peace time) mass shooting in the world.
