20 biggest Nigerian songs of 2017

  1. Yeba – Kiss Daniel || Sep 20, 2017

Yeba was Kiss Daniel’s last song for G-Worldwide Entertainment, before he left them, and it was a massive hit. Even with the ‘uncle please stop touching’ line that sparked some controversy, everybody still loved and danced to ‘e e eee, yeba’. Rather unfortunate that he didn’t get to (co-) headline shows, perform this song, and make a ton of money during the last Yuletide because of his label issues.

  1. Malo – Tiwa Savage ft Wizkid || Sep 22, 2017

This is one of the best collaborations this year, and whoever thought it wise to put Tiwa Savage and Wizkid together on this song has a bright future. Hard to imagine anyone doing the ‘Ma lo’ hook better than Wizkid. Smooth, calm, groovy, chilled, this song entered the charts and has refused to budge – a testament to how loved it is.

  1. Che Che – Mayorkun || Nov 3, 2017

Well, we said you will see Mayorkun on this list again, and Che Che the, massive Kidominant produced tune is the reason. The Mayor of Lagos has mastered the act of lacing his songs with cheesy lines and making us eat it all up. If this trajectory continues, 2018 may just see him dominate the Nigerian music scene.

  1. Fia – Davido || Nov 10, 2017

After the success of If and Fall, it would have been hard to believe Davido could make a song as good as either in 2017. But we should have known that the rich kid did not come to play with anybody. He dropped Fia in November, just before the holiday season and it became the biggest song during the Yuletide. With 3 songs on this list (and a few more that could easily have made it in), 2017 was definitely Davido’s year. Looking forward to his album.

  1. Manya – Wizkid x Mut4y || Nov 15, 2017

To wrap it up for the year, Wizkid collaborated with Mut4y of Legendary Beatz to create Manya, a loose version of VIP’s Ahomka Womu. The song did not gather steam immediately, but in usual Wizkid fashion, it grew on us, and became one of the top songs of the season; that song the DJ plays to send everyone into a frenzy, before the party ends.

Note: Although they were some of the biggest songs in 2017, Small Doctor’s Penalty, Wizkid’s Daddy Yo, Wande Coal’s Iskaba and 9ice’s Living Things were not released in 2017. And that is why they did not make the list.

Other worthy 2017 mentions include Tekno’s Go, Niniola’s Sicker, Dice Ailes’ Otedola, MI’s Fix up (that got the rap industry stoked), Kiss Daniel’s Sofa and Falz’ La Fete.
