Peter Okoye just set the internet on fire again, and this time he’s not even singing.
What’s Going On?
On July 30, Mr P dropped a lengthy Instagram post, videos included, where he said the thing everyone suspected but nobody wanted to confirm: the famous 2021 P-Square reunion was never really about music. According to him, it was staged for the cameras, and he’s done pretending otherwise.
“That reunion was fake, and I will prove that to all of you watching,” he said, adding that he was tired of “being Mr. Nice Guy” while Rudeboy kept taking shots at him in interviews.
How Did We Get Here?
This didn’t come out of nowhere. Just days earlier, Mr P had gotten dragged online for a comment about Nigerian languages.
It started innocently enough, where he posted about his kids speaking fluent French and joked about buying a house in Paris. A fan asked if the kids also spoke Igbo, and Mr P replied, “And who Naija language help?” Nigerians did not find that cute, especially given his Igbo roots and P-Square’s whole catalogue built on local language and pidgin.
The backlash was instant. Mr P apologized, insisting he was talking about “Naija language” broadly and not dragging Igbo specifically. But in that same apology, he aimed straight at his brother, accusing Rudeboy of using the moment to pile on him again, the same way he claims Rudeboy has done at every given opportunity. Rudeboy never named him directly, but he posted about being “100% proudly Nigerian, 100% proudly Igbo”, and everyone connected the dots anyway.
That was the spark. What came next was the fire.
The Reunion Story, According To Mr P
Mr P says it all traces back to November 17, 2021. He was flying back from Atlanta, and thirty-five minutes before landing in Lagos, he got a message from his caretaker saying Paul had gone to apologize to his wife, Lola. When he landed, both their teams were already waiting at his house. His wife came home in tears and told him Paul had shown up at 4am, held her leg, and kept saying he was tired.
That was what pushed Mr P to go meet his brother the next day, and that walk, the hug that went viral in 2021, is the exact moment the internet decided P-Square was “back.”
Except, per Mr P, the group was never part of the deal. He says the day after the hug, Paul brought up reviving P-Square, and he shut it down immediately: “Bro, hope I’m not part of this P-Square… For P-Square, I am done for now, maybe in the future.” His point was that they came back as brothers, not as a group, and the music had nothing to do with it.
Their older brother Jude reportedly pushed for a reunion video anyway, telling them fans needed to see it and would support them financially. Mr P claims he wasn’t fully on board, but the video happened, and Paul threw a full reunion party at his place that same night, DJ, balloons, speakers, the works.
However…
Peter’s latest revelations are not only about exposing what happened in 2021, they are also his response to years of claims about who really carried P-Square.
In the videos attached to his Instagram post, Peter accused Rudeboy of repeatedly trying to rewrite the group’s history through interviews and public comments. One of the clips he shared shows Rudeboy claiming he wrote and produced 99% of P-Square’s catalogue and that he had been carrying the weight of the group for years. Peter says those interviews were part of a long-running pattern of attempts to diminish his contributions to P-Square.
Peter challenged anyone to produce a video where he publicly tried to tear down either Rudeboy or their older brother, Jude Okoye. According to him, while he has stayed silent for years, his brother has repeatedly spoken about him in interviews.
For Peter, then, calling the reunion “fake” is now not only about correcting the public record, but also reclaiming his own version of P-Square’s history.
Fans Are Caught in the Middle
The difficult thing about following the P-Square saga is that there has never been one version of events.
Over the years, Peter, Paul and even their older brother Jude have each offered different explanations for why the group fell apart. Every time one brother speaks, the other eventually responds, and fans are left trying to piece together a story that seems to change depending on who’s telling it.
