Burna Boy Performing Live, Davido Nominated & More Reasons To Be Excited About The 66th Grammy Awards

CBS has recently announced the addition of the African giant Burna Boy, Travis Scott, Luke Combs, to the stellar lineup of performers alongside Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo at the 66th annual Grammy awards.

The Grammy Awards, arguably Music’s biggest night, will be featuring a mix of artists from different genders, music styles, and racial backgrounds this year. It’s going to be a celebration of the wonderful variety in music.


Here are some of the reasons to be excited about the 2024 Grammys. 

  1. Burna Boy Will Be Performing Live At The 66th Grammy Awards

Burna Boy who won best global music album three years ago for “Twice as Tall” album will be performing live at the crypto.com arena having also bagged several nominations this year, including Best Global Music Album (“I Told Them…”), Best African Music Performance (“City Boys”), Best Global Music Performance (“Alone”), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ On Top Of The World”).


The trajectory of Burna’s career has seen an upward movement after his global hit “Ye” which presently has over a 100 millions views on YouTube. Burna Boy has headlined major events and festivals across the world including Coachella and we are more than excited that he will be performing live at the Grammys in February. 

The other Artistes added to the list of performers are Travis Scott & Luke Combs who also bagged nominations this year. 

Travis Scott is nominated for Best Rap Album (“Utopia”). He was also nominated in that category for his previous studio album, Astroworld. Scott has amassed 10 nominations. He has yet to win. 

Luke Combs is up for Best Country Solo Performance (“Fast Car”). This is Combs’ seventh nomination. He too has yet to win. He was nominated for best new artist five years ago, but lost to Lipa.

  1. 3 New Exciting Categories Have Been Added 

The 2024 GRAMMYs will feature three exciting new award categories: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording. With a grand total of 94 categories, this year’s edition promises a night filled with global musical excellence.

  1. Davido, Asake Nominated For The Best African Music Performance Category

In 2022, the CEO of the Recording Academy traveled to several African countries, meeting with leaders in the local music scenes and paying close attention to their insights.

“Mind-bending. Game-changing. Eye-opening,” Mason jr. said of his trips to Africa. “There’s so much music, so much creativity over there. Africa is the birthplace of, well, everything, but definitely music.”

Recognizing that the diverse musical landscape of Africa goes beyond internationally recognized genres like Afrobeats or Amapiano, the Recording Academy aims to acknowledge and celebrate the rich musical offerings from every corner of the continent. 

As a response to this vibrant musical momentum, the Recording Academy introduced an exciting new category for the 2024 GRAMMYs: Best African Music Performance which has seen 4 of the 5 nominated artistes to be Nigerians. This includes

Asake and Olamide – “Amapiano”

Burna Boy – “City Boys”

Davido featuring Musa Keys – “Unavailable”

Ayra Starr – “Rush”

Tyla -“Water”

  1. Trevor Noah Hosts For The Fourth Time In A Row

The grand event, happening on Sunday, February 4, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, will be hosted by Trevor Noah for the fourth consecutive year. Trevor, also nominated for Best Comedy Album, makes history as the first Grammy host nominated in the same year since Queen Latifah in 2005. 

  1. Beyoncé Is Reportedly Slated To Perform Tina Turner Tribute At The Grammys

The singer is set to honor the late Turner with a tribute performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Turner, who battled illness for years, passed away in May 2023. 

Following the passing of the musical icon, Beyoncé penned a heartfelt message to the late rock ‘n’ roll star, referring to Turner as “the epitome of power and passion” on her website.

“I love you endlessly. I am so grateful for your inspiration and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strength and resilience,” Beyoncé wrote at the time. “We are all so fortunate to have witnessed your kindness and beautiful spirit that will forever remain.”

Beyoncé has liked Tina Turner for a long time. In 2005, she sang at the Grammys to honor Tina Turner getting a special award called the Kennedy Center Honor from President George W. Bush.
