Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku Land First Oscar Nods as Sinners Breaks Records — See Full List

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners didn’t just show up at this year’s Oscar nominations, it took over.

The film delivered a breakthrough moment for Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku, both of whom secured their first Academy Award nominations. Jordan was recognised in the Best Actor category, while Mosaku earned a nod for Best Supporting Actress, marking a defining turn in her career.

Their individual milestones arrived alongside a historic showing for the film itself. Sinners led all contenders with 16 nominations, setting a new Academy Awards record and moving past the previous high of 14 nominations held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.

The genre-bending thriller is competing for Best Picture and Best Director, in addition to acting nominations for Jordan, Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo. It also swept through the Academy’s creative and technical fields, earning recognition for screenwriting, casting, production design, cinematography, costumes, editing, makeup and hairstyling, sound, visual effects, original score, and original song for “I Lied to You.”

With nominations spanning every technical category, Sinners now sits in rare company. Only a handful of films among them Titanic, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Dune have previously achieved such broad Academy recognition. Including Original Song, Titanic was the lone title to have matched that scope until now.

This year’s nominations were revealed during a live announcement at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre, presented by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman. The 2026 Oscars will take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Conan O’Brien returning as host. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC and Hulu, beginning at 4 p.m. PT.
