Widely celebrated on the 1st of April, April Fool’s Day is one of the most popular holidays that gets participation across the globe. Dedicated to playing pranks and sharing heartfelt jokes with family, friends and the internet.

- The exact origins of April Fools’ Day are unclear, but it is commonly thought to have originated in late 16th century France. Its popularity spread to other countries during the 18th century, influenced by European expansion and colonization efforts.The popular theory of how April Fool’s Day came to be: It is believed that in the 16th century whe France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar by the council of Trent. The citizens who didn’t know the new year had been moved to January 1. The news spread slowly and some parts of the country kept celebrating in the spring, after finding out, these set of people became the butt of the joke by the other citizens who had switched to the Gregorian calendar earlier.
- The whole world has various ways of celebrating April Fools Day. Pranks in Sweden are different from pranks played in Finland or France. Indians celebrate Holi, which is a day of colors but playing pranks is also instituted.
- As a Nigerian kid, one of the most participated in pranks in schools was pasting a paper with the words “Kick me or slap me” written across. The unsuspecting victim goes about to be met with kicks or slaps without knowing he’s a target. Another popular Nigerian way of pranking others amongst siblings is lying to your younger ones about them being adopted or being picked up in the gutter by your parents when they were months old.
