#TheAtikuChallenge
After Nigeria qualified for the Russia 2018 Worldcup with one game to spare, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar shared a photo of him in heavy winter dress and said he is ready for Russia.
They say Russia is cold. We are still coming! Haha! Congratulations to the Super Eagles and all Nigerians! #NGAZAM pic.twitter.com/RX64q4PUcR

Nigerians joined him by sharing photos of themselves in similar gear, using #TheAtikuChallenge/#AtikuChallenge and it quickly went viral. We curated HERE.

#BAAD2017
It all began in May 2017 when Banky W announced that he was engaged to Adesua Etomi, his ‘The Wedding Party’ co-star. The news broke the Internet as people were shocked that the movie couple were actually getting married in real life. The engagement followed, then the traditional marriage and wedding in South Africa. Each of these events were the most talked about events in Nigeria, online and offline, making it the wedding of the year.

The traditional marriage even spun sub-trends of it’s own – including Ebuka’s famous viral agbada and Masterkraft’s infamous attire. Definitely the wedding of the year, if not the decade sef.

#EndSars
It began when somebody shared a chilling story of how members of the Special Anti Robbery Squad brutalized him. The story quickly spread and encouraged other people to share their victim stories. Twitter user @JackDre02 used the #EndSARS hashtag first, and it went viral in no time, with more Nigerians sharing their stories and calling the government to scrap the notorious Police unit. A petition was raised by Segun Awosanya (@SegaLink) and offline protests were organized in major cities in Nigeria. Local and International Media platforms covered the #EndSARS movement and in the end it became the biggest Social Change movement in Nigeria in 2017.

Yesterday on #AJStream. There are too many reasons why #EndSARS should not end until SARS is ended, and the murder of Kudirat Adebayo is one of them. If I had more than 30 seconds, I’d have shared more stories. pic.twitter.com/4rHRyrMvcx

#FuelScarcity
At a time Nigerians were supposed to be celebrating the Yuletide, petrol became scarce. Nigerians used the #FuelScarcity hashtag to share their experiences, inform their followers of filling stations that are hoarding fuel, and those that did not have long queues. Someone even used the hashtag to share a beautiful and funny rendition of Noel Remix.
This #fuelscarcity video really shouldn’t be funny, but 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/arLERt0cB2
