2. Emma Stone winning Best actress
Emma Stone was favorite to win the best actress award for her lead role in La La Land, and she did win it. After praising the movie’s director, she praised costar Ryan Gosling, saying “Thank you for making me laugh and for always raising the bar and for being the greatest partner on this crazy adventure.”
1. When La La Land was mistakenly awarded best picture.
After Warren Beatty and Dunaway announced La La Land as best picture winner, the cast and crew came on stage to receive the statues. But the producer discovered that the statues weren’t theirs so he announced that Moonlight was the actual winner. The crowd was dumbfounded at first but director Chazelle insisted it wasn’t a joke and asked the makers of Moonlight to come pick the most coveted Academy Award.
Explaining the Steve Harvey-standard gaffe, Beatty said he opened the envelop containing the best actress card (Emma Stone, La La Land) and just blurted the name.
But all these is inconsequential as Barry Jenkins received the statue and said “Even in my dream, I wouldn’t have believed it”.
What a way to end the night!!!
