Majority of the largest and most luxurious hotels are located in Las Vegas Nevada, but the largest of them all for now is situated in Malaysia. Currently no hotel has more than 7,000 rooms, but that deadlock will be broken when the 10,000 capacity Abraj Kudai hotel, under construction in Mecca, Saudi Arabia is completed.
For now however, here are the largest hotels in the world by room number.
1. First World Hotel
Capacity – 7,351
First World Hotel is a three-star hotel in Resorts World Genting, Pahang, Malaysia. Featuring a total of 7,351 rooms, it has set the Guinness World Records for the largest hotel in the world (by number of rooms). The average size of the rooms is 170.70 square feet and since 2006, the hotel has received 35.5 million guests.
2. The Venetian
Capacity – 7,117
The Venetian Las Vegas is a luxury hotel and casino resort located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States. The hotel tower contains 36 stories and rises 475 feet (145 m). The Venetian resort complex is the world’s second-largest hotel, with 4,049 rooms, 3,068 suites ranging in price from $169 to $10,000 per night and a 120,000-square-foot (11,000 m2) casino.
3. The MGM Grand
Capacity – 6,852
The MGM Grand Las Vegas is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The MGM Grand is the largest single hotel in the United States third-largest hotel complex in the world by number of rooms. The MGM Grand’s 30-floor main building houses includes five outdoor pools, rivers, and waterfalls that cover 6.6 acres (2.7 ha), a 380,000 sq ft (35,000 m2) convention center, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and the Grand Spa. When it opened in 1993, the MGM Grand was the largest hotel complex in the world.
4. CityCenter
Capacity – 6,790
CityCenter is a 16,797,000-square-foot mixed-use, urban complex on 76 acres located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. All together, the complex houses over 6,000 hotel rooms.
5. Sands Cotai Central
Capacity – 6,000
Sands Cotai Central is a casino resort on the Cotai Strip, Macau, China. Cotai Central has a combination of 6,000 rooms and suites from the Conrad, Sheraton, St. Regis and Holiday Inn brands. It also has meeting and convention space, retail outlets, entertainment and dining options as well as two casinos, the Pacifica casino and Himalaya casino.
6. Izmailovo Hotel
Capacity – 5,000
The Izmailovo Hotel is a four-building hotel located in Izmaylovo District of Moscow, Russia. The three star hotel was built for the 1980 Summer Olympics, due to sortage of rooms for tourists. Its four buildings, Alfa, Beta, Vega and Gamma-Delta, are independently managed.
7. Wynn Las Vegas
Capacity – 4,750
Wynn Las Vegas is a luxury resort and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States. Together with the adjacent Encore, the entire Wynn resort complex has a total of 4,750 rooms, making it the world’s seventh-largest hotel. The resort which is considered to be one of the finest hotels in the world has earned five star ratings on several notable rankings including Forbes and Mobil, and its restaurant Wing Lei boasts one Michelin Star.
8. Mandalay Bay
Capacity – 4,426
Mandalay Bay is a 43-story luxury resort and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. Mandalay Bay has 3,209 hotel rooms, 24 elevators and a casino of 135,000 square fee. The resort’s second tower, has 45 stories and 1,117 suites.
9. Luxor Las Vegas
Capacity – 4,470
Luxor Las Vegas is a 30-story hotel and casino situated on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The hotel is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International and has a 120,000-square-foot casino with over 2,000 slot machines and 87 table games. The casino opened in 1993 and was renovated and expanded several times. The last renovation in 1998 raised to 4,407 rooms, including 442 suites. The hotel’s rooms line the interior walls of the main tower, which has a pyramid shape, and other recent 22-story twin ziggurat towers.
10. Ambassador City
Capacity – 4,219
The Ambassador City Jomtien is a large hotel and convention centre located at Jomtien Bay, Thailand. The hotel consists of 5 buildings that each contain 150 to 2,000 suites along with eight restaurants, several bars and nightclubs, a convention center, sport centre and what is claimed to be Asia’s largest swimming pool.
