Kenneth Onubah
Kenneth Onubah was reportedly amongst those trying to locate and rescue the abducted Chibok girls when Boko Haram killed him in an ambush. From Ifite-Oraifite in Anambra State, the Army Captain died in May 2014.

Odushina Oluwafemi
Lt. Odushina Oluwafemi and his troops were ambushed by Boko Haram when they went on an unusual mission ordered by Major General Abubakar Mohammed, GOC of the Nigerian Army 7th Division. When other soldiers learnt of his death, they mutinied against the GOC, who was subsequently redeployed.
Lt. Oluwafemi had previously served in the UN Peace keeping mission in Darfur. He’d received additional training in Pakistan, only to be deployed to Maiduguri in March 2014, 2 months before he was killed.

Mayowa Areago
Mayowa Areago graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2012 and was immediately deployed to the North to fight Boko Haram. His life was cut short when he was killed on the 9th of November 2014, while retreating from a mission to combat the insurgents.

There are hundreds and perhaps thousands of stories like this, of brave people who have died while fighting Boko Haram. As we mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, spare a thought and prayer for them. RIP, heroes.
