Shitu Kyom Leo
He was billed to wed his bride, Angela Whorie Giaya, on the 30th of August 2014. Cards had been distributed and people had been invited. But in July, during an operation to dislodge insurgents around Delwa, Borno State, 2nd Lieutenant Shitu Leo was one of the three soldiers who were killed when Insurgents ambushed them.

Innocent Nuhu Tahiru
Young Innocent Nuhu Tahiru posted this on Facebook on the 12th of August 2017. About a month later, he died in a fierce battle with Boko Haram. He paid the ultimate price just 2 years after joining the Army.

Japheth Amanze
Along with all the soldiers under his command, Lt. Colonel Amanze was killed by Boko Haram on the 2nd of February 2015. Friends and colleagues have described him as a fiercely patriotic Nigerian, dedicated family man, and devoted soldier. He was buried in Maiduguri, alongside others who died while fighting the insurgents.

Mohammed Medawa
Barely 24 hours before he was to be promoted to Captain, members of the Boko Haram group killed Lt Mohammed Medawa in Sambisa forest. He was part of a ‘clearance’ operation ordered by General Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, who had given his men 40 days to capture Abubakar Shekau, dead or alive.
Before his posting to Borno, Medawa had served at the Brigade of Guards in Abuja. He was leading troops of the Nigerian Army 5 Brigade when his unit came under heavy artillery fire from the terrorists. He died alongside 9 soldiers in the deadly attack.
