“Lagos is expensive”,“Lagos is expensive”…you’ve probably heard this before.
Yes, it can be, but it is usually said by people who only know one kind of Lagos: the kind with overpriced cocktails, stiff dress codes, and a bill that makes you question your life choices on the drive home.
Lagos is a city of layers, and if you only ever look at the top floor, you’ll miss everything interesting happening below. You don’t have to overspend to impress, especially in this era where survival is luxury.
This is a list of places that are genuinely fun, affordable, and very thoughtful:
- Freedom Park — Lagos Island
Hospital Road, Lagos Island
Open daily, 10am – 10pm (11pm on Fridays)
Approx. ₦5,000 – ₦10,000 for two (entry + food from vendors + drinks)

One of the most slept-on spots in all of Lagos. Freedom Park sits on the old colonial prison grounds and has been turned into an outdoor cultural space with live music, food stalls, a bar, table tennis, and history you can actually walk through.
The Asun and tiger nut drink from the food vendors alone are worth the trip. Best on weekend evenings when there’s a live performance on the outdoor stage. Ideal for creative types, first dates, or anyone who wants a proper conversation without shouting over a DJ.
- Bamboo Lounge (Collage) — Ikeja GRA
38 Oduduwa Way, Ikeja GRA
Open daily, 11am – 3am
Approx. ₦20,000 – ₦40,000 for two (food + drinks)

Bamboo Lounge gets the atmosphere right without charging you for the privilege. Poolside seating, live sets on some evenings, indoor and outdoor options, and a seafood grill that is worth ordering every single time. Good for dates that start at dinner and slowly drift into a full evening without anyone checking the time.
- The Cabin — Surulere
114 Bode Thomas Street, Surulere
Tuesday – Sunday, 2pm – 2am (closed Mondays)
Approx. ₦10,000 – ₦20,000 for two (food + drinks)

The Cabin is upstairs, accessed through Sweet Sensation, which surprises first-timers, but once you’re up there it all makes sense. Rustic, comfortable setting, live match screenings, and a DJ that kicks in later in the evening. The mini platter is filling, well-spiced, and big enough for two to share as a starter. Ideal for Mainland couples who want something genuinely nice without the Island price tag.
- Sankofa Lounge — Surulere
62 Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere
Open 24 hours
Approx. ₦8,000 – ₦18,000 for two (food + drinks)

Sankofa is low-pressure and low-key, which makes it ideal for a first date where you don’t want the setting to feel like a performance. The breakfast buffet is one of the better affordable deals on the Mainland.
Not the flashiest spot on this list but sometimes, easy and comfortable is exactly the right call, especially early in a relationship when you’re still figuring each other out.
- Vanilla Moon — Victoria Island
2 Saka Jojo Street, Victoria Island
Tuesday – Sunday, 12pm – 11:30pm (closed Mondays)
Approx. ₦25,000 – ₦45,000 for two (food + cocktails)

Vanilla Moon is ideal for a date that needs to feel properly thought-through without the conversation being interrupted by a shocking bill. The outdoor seating at night is beautiful, the Blue Sky and Passion Fruit cocktails all standout.
- Turáká Rooftop — Victoria Island
EbonyLife Building, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island
Monday – Thursday & Sunday, 11am – 11pm; Saturday, 11am – 1am
Approx. ₦20,000 – ₦35,000 for two (food + drinks)

Sitting on the rooftop of the EbonyLife Building, Turáká gives you a view of Eko Atlantic and the coastal road which is not something the city offers freely. From the name, “Turaka”, it’s a place to unwind and relax. It is ideal for dates where both of you just need to exhale, have cool conversations, and remember that a good evening doesn’t have to be complicated.
- Tranquil by Glims — Ikorodu
Ibeshe, Ikorodu
Open daily, 1pm – 12am
Approx. ₦10,000 – ₦20,000 for two (food + drinks)

Tranquil by Glims has a waterside setting that is peaceful in a way that most Lagos spots have to charge you significantly more for. The ambience is well put together, ideal to have a proper date experience close to home. Call ahead to confirm menu availability before you go.
- Kessington Restaurant and Lounge — Gbagada
9 Igbeyin Adun Street, Pedro, Gbagada
Open 24 hours
Approx. ₦15,000 – ₦25,000 for two (food + drinks)

Kessington is open 24 hours, which means it works even when your plans start late or run long. Soft lighting, intimate decor, and warm service. Ideal for a proper sit-down dinner date where the ambience does the heavy lifting without requiring a special occasion budget.
- The Terrace — Lekki Phase 1
23b Kunle Ogunba Street, Lekki Phase 1
Open daily, 12pm – 11:30pm (1am on weekends)
Approx. ₦15,000 – ₦28,000 for two (food + cocktails)

Open-air, calm music, board games on the tables, and a cocktail window deal between 5–8pm on weekends that is very much worth timing your visit around. Ideal for someone whose idea of a good date is low noise, good food, and optional activities.
- BFF Lagos
4 Jibowu Street, Jibowu, Yaba
Open daily, 12pm – 11pm (11:30pm on Fridays)
Approx. ₦12,000 – ₦22,000 for two (food + drinks)

BFF stands for Bar, Food and Friends, and the place earns all three. The space is cozy, the music is right, and they do karaoke nights.
- Citi Lounge — Surulere
9 Mabo Street, Surulere
Open daily, evenings onwards
Approx. ₦8,000 – ₦15,000 for two (food + drinks)

Citi Lounge is one of Surulere’s most consistent spots with good music and Nigerian food that fills you. The “Citipod” is also what sets it apart. It’s a private pod experience where you can play PS5, use it as a workspace, or even set up a proposal.
